All The AI Features Coming To Chrome

January 25, 2024

As Google tries to regain AI leadership, they are rolling out more Generative AI features to their products.

Just last week, the company announced that Gmail would be getting an AI voice feature to help users draft emails faster and better.

Now, they are bringing even more AI features to their browser, Chrome, which also happens to be the world’s most popular browser by marketshare, by a country mile.

The new experimental features were made available on Tuesday, with release of Chrome (M121). US users have immediate access, on both Macs and PCs.

The New AI Features on Chrome

There are a total of 3 new features announced this week.

1. Smart Tab organizer

If you’re one of those who lost track of the number of tabs on their Chrome browser, you know how hectic and hopelessly manual tab organization can be.

The new AI feature will automatically suggest and create tab groups, based on your open tabs. The AI will also suggest names for these groups, just to eliminate this final thinking hurdle.

2. Writing Assist

Having an AI writing assistant is nothing new. Google already have it on Gmail and even on Docs. However, this is the first time they’re putting it in the browser.

The tool can be used in lots of situations, from restaurant review, to filling a form.

It’s rather easy to use, and requires you to only right click on any text box on any site, then click ‘Help me write’.

3. Create Your Own AI Themes

Perhaps not on many people’s priority list, but the new Chrome will come with an AI to help you create your own unique themes.

It’s the same tech they are using for generative AI wallpapers on Android 14 devices.

Once you click the ‘Customize Chrome’ side panel, you’ll find a ‘Create with AI’ option under ‘Change Theme’. You’ll then be guided on how to create something suitable.
